On April 1, 2014, the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) will launch a campaign to engage Hispanics in boating and fishing as research has shown this population segment is underrepresented as anglers, lacks participation as boat owners, and is generally unaware of aquatic conservation or preservation practices. However, at 52 million strong, this is not a population segment we can ignore. In fact:
- Hispanics represent 38 percent of the population under age 18 in the top 10 U.S. designated market areas.
- Growth is now coming from births, not immigration; 1 of every 4 babies born in the U.S. is Hispanic.
- With an estimated $700 billion in shopping power, Hispanics are BIG business.
RBFF’s five-year outreach plan begins with a pilot in Florida and Texas that includes a new Spanish-language microsite; digital, social, and traditional media; and 15 events. To ensure stakeholders are benefiting from its work, RBFF has produced a webinar that defines the Hispanic opportunity for the boating industry. It’s free, it’s online, and it’s available to view at any time at http://goo.gl/QPCokm. Please take 35 minutes to watch this valuable webinar, titled Engaging the Hispanic Audience: Insights to Actions, and share it with your staff.
It’s in your best interest to engage with this quickly growing population segment – our future boaters and anglers – and RBFF is ready to help. Get on board with RBFF’s Hispanic campaign and use its research and recommendations to enhance your own marketing strategy.
